Makongo High School was founded in 1994, after acquisition of new school registration. Previously was known as JWTZ Lugalo secondary school established in 1974 being one among the schools established under TPDF Regiments and National services programmes to provide secondary education to officers and men who were enrolled without having secondary education level. Such schools include Mgulani (JWTZ) School which later became Jitegemee High School and Mirambo which also became Unyanyembe Secondary School. On May 1995 JWTZ Lugalo Secondary School managed to get new registration, with registration number S.731 with new name Makongo Secondary School under the leadership of Major Iddi Omary Kipingu the Headmaster by then Since then, Makongo Secondary School quickly developed academic credentials and has been gradually expanding to reach the children of the family of officers and men as well as nearby citizen who would wish to bring their children to get secondary education in this school. A part from providing Ordinary Secondary Education, also the school provides Advanced Secondary Education with various combinations as well as other training courses such as Pre Form V (Resiters), QT and VETA.
